Detlev Friese (Del) first opened the doors of Delmar Wood Craft in 1978. Del started his career by making small wooden accessories and began to craft furniture shortly after. At Delmar Woodcraft, we still build furniture the old fashion way, one piece at a time, and according to tried and true craftsmanship. Over time Del has honed his skills as a custom furniture maker for customers across Ontario. In 1991, his wife Marilyn joined him to take on the responsibility of the day to day operations of the business. Del has shared his vast knowledge of furniture building with his son Adam, who has been with the business since 1999. Adam’s work involves designing and crafting the furniture as well as applying unique finishes. The majority of the work produced is armoires, entertainment units, bookcases, buffet/hutches and other commissioned work. Our pieces are produced in a variety of woods including Pine, Cherry, Maple and many other fine woods. The old techniques of dove tail drawers and mortise and tenon joints are still used by the Friese family. All furniture is finished with traditional stains and authentic milk paint, using hand rubbed finishes that are applied to achieve an authentic aged appearance.
